The Thundershirt - How it works

The Thundershirt applies a gentle and constant pressure on your dog's body. This pressure has a calming effect on most fearful, stressed or excitable dogs.

Scientists believe that the pressure created by the Thundershirt releases calming hormones (such as endorphins). This principle of applying gentle pressure to the torso to reduce anxiety has already been proven effective on infants or those with autism.

Using the Thundershirt has proven to be helpful for most dogs. A survey of owners of more than 2000 dogs showed that in more than 80% of dogs (4 dogs out of 5), the improvement was significant.

How to use the Thundershirt

If required, your dog can wear the Thundershirt for long periods without problem, as it is made of a light fabric that allows the skin to breathe. However, if your dog must wear it for more than 2 hours, we recommend removing the Thundershirt every 2 hours to make sure there are no areas of the body that are becoming irritated (this is rare, but it is better to be on the safe side).

Because the fabric of the Thundershirt is thin and breathable, there is no risk of your dog becoming overheated. If it is very hot (30̊ C), you should still check to make sure your dog is not too hot by making sure it is not panting excessively.
