It is important to know that if  you have an aggressive dog, playing tug of war can result in increased aggressiveness. Therefore, it is important that this type of game be played in a controlled manner with a well-trained dog.

If your dog has a strong hunting instinct (it catches objects, shakes them vigourously and destroys them), we recommend not reinforcing this type of behaviour by pulling on the rope to play with your dog.

If your dog is extremely hyper after playing tug of war, or if it wants to play more and more often and gets even more hyper each time, we recommend playing with something else (i.e. a ball).

If your dog is well balanced and does not exhibit aggressive behaviour, it should not be a problem to play tug of war with your dog.
